Housing

First and Second Years

General Information

This site is provided solely as a service to the students of WVSOM. Listings on this site are provided to WVSOM students in order to assist them in securing housing for the first two years of their medical education at WVSOM. Included are rental properties in the Lewisburg and Greenbrier County areas.

Students are encouraged to visit Lewisburg and to review the listings for available rentals. First year students should have their housing secured and be moved in prior to the start of Orientation. The housing listings are updated on an ongoing basis, so please check back regularly.

The housing listings on this site do not represent an endorsement, approval or recommendation by WVSOM of: the landlord, owners or management company; the quality, conditions or features of the properties; or the business practices of those involved. Listings are not reviewed, vetted or inspected by WVSOM, and we rely solely on the landlord/owner for information about the housing offerings. WVSOM, therefore, is not responsible for any issues that may arise with any property or rental agent (i.e., issues with refund of deposits or conflicts with landlords/owners). Any issues that do arise with any property or landlord/owner should be addressed directly with the landlord/owner. Reviews and ratings on this website are the opinions of the individual reviewers and do not reflect the views or opinions of WVSOM.

Although WVSOM does not assume responsibility for the quality, conditions or features of the properties, strict adherence to non-discrimination practices are required of those who list properties.

Driving directions are provided by Google Maps and may not accurately reflect current road conditions, including new roads, road closings and detours. Distance from WVSOM is entered by landlords/owners and may not be accurate.

Use of an account to access WVSOM resources is subject to the terms and conditions of the WVSOM Acceptable Use Policy, GA-31. WVSOM is not responsible for emails or other communications that are lost or not received.

Note: Because these listings are provided to medical students who need academic year leases, we will only post rentals that coincide with the full academic year.

Specific Information for Landlords/Owners

WVSOM reserves the right to remove housing listings and delete user accounts for any reason including, but not limited to, misleading or deceptive information in housing listings or abusive or discriminatory language.

Images uploaded to the site will be cropped to 500x300 pixels for purposes of display on the website. Landlords/owners are responsible for uploading images in the correct orientation (modern computers can sometimes detect the orientation in which your camera was held when you took the picture and rotate the image accordingly, meaning that your computer may display the image in the correct orientation even though it is actually stored in another orientation).

WVSOM is not responsible for unauthorized access to your account or changes to your listings. If you suspect your account has been compromised, it is your responsibility to report this promptly to the WVSOM Information Technology Help Desk by email at helpdesk@osteo.wvsom.eduor by phone at 304-647-6246.

Changes to housing listings are subject to approval by WVSOM.

Specific Information for Students

WVSOM students are encouraged to exercise their own good judgment when evaluating a prospective rental unit or landlord/owner.

Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Fair Housing Act, which can be found on the Housing and Urban Development website.

WVSOM takes no responsibility for the accuracy of reviews or ratings on this site. Reviews and ratings will only appear on this site after being moderated. WVSOM reserves the right to block the posting of or take down any review for any reason, including, but not limited to, reviews that could be considered offensive or insensitive or which contain unacceptable or provocative language.

When you are viewing a potential rental, you should observe its condition and ask the landlord/owner any questions that you might have. Some questions you may want to consider asking are the following:

  • Is there a deposit? If so, how much is it and how can I ensure that I will have the best chance that it will be returned?
  • How do I reach the landlord/owner in case of emergency or if there’s a problem?
  • Are utilities included in the rent?
  • Am I responsible for snow removal?
  • Am I responsible for lawn care (mowing, etc.)?
  • Is pest treatment an expense for which I am responsible?
  • Are pets allowed?
  • Is there an outside light for use at night?
  • Are the locks on the rental adequately secure?
  • Are there working smoke detectors?

Housing During Clinical Rotations

Most students move out of their apartments at the end of the two years of preclinical training and relocate. Students are expected to secure housing in the area of their assigned statewide campus location while completing years three and four of their medical school training.

If you have a family, you may choose to maintain your Lewisburg residence because your children are in the local school system or your spouse has a job in the local area.

To accommodate those students who have left their lodgings in Lewisburg but who must return to perform clinical rotations in the area, WVSOM maintains the WVSOM Rotation House which has eight beds, available at no rental cost to the student. Reservations must be made for these rooms through the Rotation House Reservation Form, your Statewide Campus Director.
