Social media medical influencer named graduation keynote speaker
An osteopathic physician who has millions of followers on social media platforms will return to his West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) alma mater.
WVSOM will welcome Adam Goodcoff, D.O., as keynote speaker during the school’s 49th annual Commencement Ceremony celebrating its medical students. The ceremony will take place May 1.
He is an emergency medicine physician, entrepreneur and nationally recognized leader in health care education and digital innovation. Goodcoff is chief medical officer of HealthCentral, a health care experience company focused on creating impactful content for patients and health care providers.
Goodcoff became widely known for creating accessible, evidence-based medical education on social media, reaching millions of followers across platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. This work led to further recognition, including participation in the White House Healthcare Leaders in Social Media Roundtable. He later founded and served as CEO of MedFluencers, the first and largest health care provider influencer marketing agency, helping health organizations partner with clinician creators to deliver digital campaigns.
Gail Swarm, D.O., WVSOM’s interim vice president for academic affairs and dean and chief academic officer, said the school is proud to have a graduate impart words of encouragement to a new cohort of physicians.
“As a former student and anatomy graduate teaching assistant, Dr. Goodcoff demonstrated early on a passion for teaching and mentorship. Today he has extended that commitment far beyond the clinical setting by becoming a trusted voice in evidence‑based medical education through social media,” she said. “His work exemplifies how physicians can responsibly leverage modern platforms to combat misinformation, promote critical thinking and translate science into accessible, accurate learning for the public.”
Goodcoff earned a D.O. degree from WVSOM in 2020 and completed an emergency medicine residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In addition to clinical experience in the Johns Hopkins Health System, he has served as a visiting lecturer at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and is a medical advisor to OpenEvidence.
His work has been recognized by Medical Marketing and Media’s 40 Under 40, Reuters’ Next-Rising Healthcare Leaders and Becker’s Top Doctors to Follow on Social Media. Goodcoff’s vision is to continue evolving the way health care professionals educate each other and patients online, advancing trust, accuracy and impact in digital medicine.
