W. Va. Code § 18B-1-6
The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine adopts the policies and procedures of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, and recognizes the following privacy rights of students at WVSOM.
Right to Privacy – The student is entitled to the same safe-guards of the rights and freedoms of citizenship as are afforded those outside the academic community, including, but not limited to, the following:
Confidentiality of communication, to the extent consistent with state law, in relationships with faculty members, administrators and counselors;
Respect for personality, including freedom from unreasonable and unauthorized searches of student living quarters;
Confidentiality of academic and disciplinary records; and
Legitimate evaluations made from student records.
