R 01-2. Assurance

2.1

The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (“WVSOM”) complies with the U.S. Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals in a manner set forth in the WVSOM Articles of Assurance of Compliance (“Assurance”), which is on file in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and with the chair of the WVSOM Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

2.2

This Assurance applies to all research, training, and biological testing activities involving live, vertebrate animals (excluding humans) conducted at WVSOM or at another institution through a sub-award or subcontract by WVSOM.

R 01-3. Policy

WVSOM:

3.1

Will comply with all applicable provisions of the Animal Welfare Act and other Federal statutes and regulations relating to animal research, training, and testing;

3.2

Is guided by the U.S. Government Principles for the Utilization and Care of Vertebrate Animals Used in Testing, Research, and Training; and

3.3

Acknowledges and accepts responsibility for the care and use of animals involved in activities covered in the Assurance. As partial fulfillment of this responsibility, WVSOM will ensure that all individuals involved in the care and use of laboratory animals understand their individual and collective responsibilities for compliance with the Assurance as well as all other applicable laws and regulations pertaining to animal care and use.
