As a state-owned institution, the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) represents a significant public investment. To preserve the integrity and functionality of its campus facilities, WVSOM staff conducted a comprehensive review and prioritization of deferred maintenance needs.

Focused Areas

  • Structural issues that, if left unaddressed, could lead to greater damage and significantly higher repair costs.
  • Functional and operational deficiencies that could hinder WVSOM’s ability to attract and educate students, create compliance or accessibility challenges, or lead to ongoing maintenance costs that exceed the cost of replacement.
  • Maintaining a modern learning environment while preserving affordability for our students.

In October 2024, the West Virginia Legislature passed — and Governor Justice signed — Senate Bill 2020, allocating $13.6 million in surplus state funds to WVSOM for capital improvements, repairs, and equipment. 

The support from the Legislature and Governor reflects a strong, ongoing commitment to higher education in West Virginia and to enhancing the academic and operational environments for students, faculty, and staff.

WVSOM has developed and is actively implementing a plan to use these funds efficiently and promptly. Any unused funds will roll forward beyond the end of the fiscal year, ensuring continued progress on critical projects.

Founders’ Activity Center

Cost:

Roland P. Sharp Alumni Conference Center and Greenbrier Military School Museum
