Current ai security guidance at WVSOM focuses on data references, biases/risks, security, intellectual property, use in the curriculum, etc. At no time should patient or clinical data be used or stored in AI systems (see the WVSOM HIPAA Policy for more information).
Please refer to the institutional Code of Conduct and Academic and Professional Standards (D.O. Program) or Academic and Professional Standards (Graduate Program).
Most GenAI tools use what you enter to train their systems, so there may be security issues involved in using GenAI outside of Microsoft 365 Copilot (which is a WVSOM-maintained and secure resource).
It is important to review AI statements in course syllabi for each course to ensure you are following course guidance on the use of AI for assignments or study.
Currently, students do not have a specific academic integrity policy around GenAI. Instead, they should refer to the institutional guidance, academic and professional standards, and HIPAA policies noted above.
