“WVSOM was my first choice of medical school,” said Aaron Byczynski, a student in WVSOM’s Class of 2022. “I wanted to attend an established school, and WVSOM stuck out as one that had a long track record of producing quality physicians. I also liked that WVSOM was a standalone osteopathic institution, where about 800 medical students are the focus of the entire organization.”

Byczynski’s visit to WVSOM’s campus further convinced him he was making the right decision. “The interview was just fantastic, and with each person I met, I felt more and more at home. My whole interview group even got to meet WVSOM’s president,” he said.

While attending WVSOM, Byczynski learned leadership skills by joining the Student Government Association and serving on the WVSOM Board of Governors as a student representative. “I didn’t come to medical school planning to jump into leadership, but it felt like the right thing to do,” he said. “WVSOM has helped me understand my leadership style, which is to lead by example and to make sure all the involved parties are communicating well. I’ve really felt heard during my time here.”
