Student doctors selected for the Rural Health Initiative Program are matched with rural West Virginia physicians who serve as mentors. These physicians follow the student doctors through their clinical education and residency years.
Residents in the Mountain State Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institutions (MSOPTI) are also utilized as mentors.
"It has been valuable to talk with my mentor about worries regarding my curriculum and my residency. It's nice to be able to go to a physician who no longer has a bearing on your education who knows the WVSOM, AACOM, and AOA systems to maximally help guide you."
RHI Student from the Class of 2014
"He has always been more than willing to answer questions and make himself available to me. I could not ask for a better role model."
