Research Interests

My goal is to use the Peromyscus audiogenic seizure susceptible animals for developing a novel model to study the genetic cause, development and progression of epilepsy. The short-term projects of my research are:

  1. behavioral characterization using state-of-the-art sound generating and monitoring equipment to identify acoustic stimulus parameters that trigger a seizure
  2. genetic fine mapping of the ‘epl’ mutation in Peromyscus animals

The long-term aim of the work is to provide a well defined, natural epilepsy model that will allow to test potential anticonvulsants, study the effect of natural genetic variation on disease outcome, etc.
