Jeff Dowdy

We’d like you to meet Jeff Dowdy
Assistant Director of Physical Plant 1, Institutional Services

How long have you worked at WVSOM?
November 2018 will make 32 years full-time. I was part-time from Nov. 1985 to Nov. 1986.

What city/town are you originally from?
Ronceverte, W.Va.

What is your favorite spot on campus?
The circle outside and the break room before work. (Solving the world’s problems with a laugh.)

What is one of your favorite or funny memories at WVSOM?
Back in the ’90s when they fired the cannon during graduation week people could hear it up on Muddy Creek Mountain.

How do you, in your role here at WVSOM, support the school’s mission?
Make sure the buildings are nice and clean for everyone who enters our campus.

What is it about WVSOM (as an institution or as an employer) that has made you want to work here for so long?
The benefits, the friendships between staff, students and administration. Overall WVSOM is a great place to work.

Tell us something we may not know about you or an interesting fact.
On my second day after being hired, I couldn’t make it to work because of the flood of ’85. Roads were closed and I started here at age 18 — my one and only place of employment. For six months, my dad brought me to and from work until I could drive.
