"It is the task of our age to recognize human-kind as a whole once more - each of us being of spirit, mind, and body - without abandoning the knowledge we've gained through science." - Robert C. Fulford, D.O., Touch of Life

Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training

The OPTI curriculum in Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OP&P) at WVSOM builds upon the foundation of training provided to students in the osteopathic principles and practice courses during the first and second years of the undergraduate curriculum. The didactic component of each OPTI workshop emphasizes the differential diagnosis of a commonly encountered acute problem, expanding the intern or resident's knowledge base to include somatic dysfunction causes. Structural diagnosis and manipulative treatment skills applicable for hospitalized patients are emphasized in the practical component of each workshop. The workshops are presented by WVSOM OP&P Faculty from the Lewisburg campus via Mountain Doctor Television, an interactive video transmission to all OPTI sites. As OMT is demonstrated by television, table trainers are present at each OPTI site to assist the interns and residents with the various techniques. Each OPTI site receives 4 workshops per year.
