Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
OMM is the clinical specialty which provides complete evaluation, detailed postural and structural examination, and manipulative and postural treatment to patients with musculoskeletal and other problems associated with somatic dysfunction.

OMM at the Robert C. Byrd Clinic
The OMM Department provides osteopathic manipulative medicine by appointment only for adults and children. Services include osteopathic manipulative treatment, postural evaluation and treatment, heel lifts, trigger point and joint injections, acupuncture, exercise prescriptions, and hospital OMM consultations. Reduced rates are available through the GTA OMM Clinic. The Robert C. Byrd Clinic is located at 300 North Jefferson Street in Lewisburg, adjacent to the WVSOM campus. OMM Rotation
The OMM Rotation at the Robert C. Byrd Clinic of WVSOM is designed to provide student doctors or housestaff with clinical exposure to and experience with the unique practice of osteopathic medicine, including but not limited to manipulative treatment. The two week rotation includes learning objectives, clinical observation and practice, reading assignments, attendance at WVSOM OPP classes, and a post-rotation exam.

OMM Hospital Consultations
The OMM Department at the Robert C. Byrd Clinic provides consultations for structural examination and manipulative treatment for patients hospitalized at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
OMM consultations are performed at the request of hospital attending physicians in order to promote body healing for various problems such as pneumonia and other respiratory difficulties, edema, newborn feeding disorders, and musculoskeletal pain.

GTA OMM Clinic
The Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) of the Osteopathic Principles and Practice Division at WVSOM see patients with an OMM physician for musculoskeletal evaluations. The GTA's provide OMT when indicated, under supervision, one afternoon weekly.
The Graduate Teaching Assistants for 2007-08 are Eric Miller, Frances Southwick, Jonathan (JT) Taylor, and Colin Zhu.

Student OMM Clinic
The OMM clinics are designed to give students the opportunity to provide OMT to patients under the supervision of OP&P faculty. The goals of the clinic are to: introduce students to clinical practice; provide experience in performing a history and physical exam; introduce coding for somatic dysfunction and manipulative treatment; provide experience in diagnosis and treatment of somatic dysfunction; encourage the use of OMT in a primary care setting.
Students are required to attend 10 weekly clinic sessions as part of their second year OPP course.
