Diversity and Social Justice

The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine is committed to fostering an educational environment that values the development of human potential, cultural and ethnic diversity, and understanding. We strive to promote equitable and fair treatment in every aspect of campus life for all persons, regardless of race, ethnic background, gender, age, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.

To fulfill this commitment, WVSOM has established two groups with the intent of helping to encourage a more diverse atmosphere on campus: The Dean's Task Force to Promote Diversity and The Committee for Social Justice and Cultural Diversity. Both groups are composed of various faculty, staff, and students and focus on many different issues, ranging from the recruitment of faculty and students to improving the social and learning environment for everyone on campus.

In addition there is a student organization called PAX, which promotes cultural awareness on campus. PAX sponsors a variety of events during the school year, including guest speakers on a multitude of subjects, free Spanish lessons, and our annual "International Day Festival" which is a celebration of minority culture and awareness. Anyone who would like more information about PAX can email the club advisor, Dr. Kelly Jackson.

Here at WVSOM we are very committed to increasing the social consciousness of our campus and are very proud of the efforts that have been made by everyone to help further this very important cause!
