SEAHEC COUNTIES

The Southeastern West Virginia Area Health Education Center (AHEC) advocates for quality primary and preventative health care delivery to rural and underserved populations by improving distribution of health care professionals through academic and community collaboration.

  • Support seamless integration of graduate training programs in primary care with state-supported undergraduate health professions training programs within rural underserved communities through interdisciplinary team rotations comprised of medical residents and other health disciplines (nursing, pharmacy, dental, allied health).
  • Support health careers recruitment programs from rural and underserved community high school populations to promote educational pipeline from secondary to higher education through post graduate health professions training.
  • Support recruitment and retention efforts to match community health care needs with trained health professionals who are products of interdisciplinary training and who embrace values of rural and underserved communities.
  • Support efforts to provide quality continuing education opportunities for health care professionals in rural and underserved communities to prevent isolation and enhance the practice environment.
