West Vrigina Central AHEC The West Virginia Central AHEC Office There are four Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) operating within West Virginia, including the Southeastern AHEC, located at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. The West Virginia AHEC Centers seek to provide a seamless integration of rural undergraduate health professions training programs with graduate training programs in primary care within rural underserved communities. AHEC graduate-level interdisciplinary team "block" rotations are available on a voluntary basis and deal with both clinical and community issues typical of rural primary care. Each AHEC works with local communities, preceptors, and faculty to develop their own contribution and expertise in community-based health professions training in West Virginia.

WVRHEP The West Virginia RHEP The West Virginia Rural Health Education Partnerships (WVRHEP) consists of 8 training consortia statewide and continues to expand. The training network includes over 367 community-based health, social, and education agencies. Over 640 field faculty from eleven disciplines teach 3rd and 4th year medical students and health professions students, making the WVRHEP one of the largest rural training programs in the nation. The state's three medical schools, along with other West Virginia University Systems schools work closely with local communities and state government to provide a variety of health promotion and wellness activities. The rotations are community-based, problem-focused, and utilize an interdisciplinary team approach. Housing is provided across the statewide training network.
