Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements
To receive aid from federal student aid programs, you must:
- have financial need (except for unsubsidized student loans).
- have a high school diploma or a General Education Development Certificate (GED) or meet standards approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
- be enrolled as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate in an eligible program.
- be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- have a valid Social Security Number.
- make satisfactory academic progress.
- sign a statement of educational purpose/certification statement on refunds and default (on the FAFSA).
- sign a statement of updated information, if required (on the Student Aid Report).
- register with the Selective Service, if required.
- complete a WVSOM Application for Financial Aid each academic year.
- must not exceed allowable loan limits under any program.
- must complete the verification process if required to do so.
- must be credit worthy if applying for alternative loans and have no adverse credit when applying for a Graduate/Professional Plus loan.
