Like the community it serves, Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) offers diverse and dynamic experiences to the interns and residents it trains. As a 913 bed tertiary healthcare system, closely affiliated with West Virginia University (WVU), CAMC offers a balanced experience in both private practice and academia in an urban medical center, primary care clinics, and rural health centers.

At CAMC and WVU, Charleston Division, interns and residents work with dedicated physicians who have a full time commitment to training physicians to practice in a broad range of environments, from the highly technical to the most rural. Many of the clinical faculty are nationally recognized primary care clinicians, specialists and subspecialists. Interns and residents learn from them during office and clinical rotations.

The experienced faculty, diverse settings, and the blend of clinical and academic involvement prepares physicians in training for a challenging and successful future. WVU full time faculty represent medical disciplines including behavioral medicine, family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and surgery. All other disciplines and subspecialties are represented among the clinical faculty.

Interns and residents are encouraged to develop their own interests and explore the resources of CAMC, the state's largest teaching hospital. Students looking for a postdoctoral training program that will meet their academic, professional, and personal needs should consider at Charleston Area Medical Center, WVU, Charleston Divsion.

As part of the CAMC Health System, CAMC has ties to comprehensive care services including home health, aeromedical and ground transport, a health education and research institute, a coalition for improving and measuring community health, and a managed care network.

The Education Building of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center of WVU, Charleston Division, houses a fully staffed medical library with one of the largest clinical collections in West Virginia, as well as computer assisted literature search and internet access, research labs, classrooms, and faculty offices.

When choosing a place to live and work, lifestyle should also be a part of that decision. In West Virginia, that means more of the simple pleasures. Breathtaking mountains and valleys, boundless recreational and cultural activities, and warm people are all a way of life here. Being an osteopathic intern or resident in training at Charleston Area Medical Center and West Virginia University, Charleston Division, means becoming part of a respected team at an academic medical center which encourages innovation.
