"Winning this award is truly an honor," Huggins said. "To be selected as our school's winner is an accomplishment in its own right... It makes me proud that I would be the student selected to represent the school at the national level." - Brian Huggins, D.O. |
WVSOM student named National Student D.O. of the Year
A West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine graduate received national recognition during the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) annual awards banquet.
Brian Huggins was named the National Student D.O. of the Year among all other students in osteopathic medical schools nationwide and is the first student from WVSOM to ever receive the honor.
The award was presented to Huggins for his many achievements as well as his service to the school, community and osteopathic profession.
"Winning this award is truly an honor," Huggins said. "To be selected as our school's winner is an accomplishment in its own right. There are so many students at WVSOM who selflessly devote their free time to leadership roles and community service. It makes me proud that I would be the student selected to represent the school at the national level."
WVSOM President Michael Adelman, D.O., J.D., said the award gives recognition to Huggins' work while at the school as well as brings prestige to WVSOM.
"Brian was not only a great medical student but he was incredibly active in playing a role in helping move this institution forward," Adelman said.
Huggins said he is glad that his accomplishments help highlight WVSOM.
"I love my school, and I would not have been able to succeed if it weren't for the guidance I received by multiple mentors in the administration or without the help of my fellow student leaders. Each great leader is part of a great team," he said.
More of Huggins' story can be found in the next issue of the WVSOM magazine.
