Grant Opportunities - Community of Science

The information on this page is designed to assist faculty, staff, and students in locating external funding for research and other projects. The WVSOM administration has provided access to the "Community of Science" (COS), a searchable database for finding funding sources.

When you go to the COS site you simply follow the instructions below to create your own account to get full access to the various features. When you create an account, your interaction with the site will be personalized and you will be able to track your efforts via the "workbench" feature.

Go to: www.cos.com

  • In the top menu, move over to the tab that has "COS workbench and COS profile".
  • From the dropdown menu at the "COS workbench, COS profile tab", click on "log into COS workbench"
  • A box for Username and Password will appear (but you don't have these yet).
  • Click on "Join" on the left menu tab of that screen.
  • Then click on the "Join" button in the middle of the screen.
  • The "Create Your Account" screen will pop-up.
  • Fill in the boxes. Create your account; and you're good to go.
  • Next, you can create your personal profile. Just follow the menu.

The AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) sponsores a "Caring for Community Grant Program" which was formed to encourage the development of student-initiated services and programs to the community. Application cycles for this program usually begin in November.
