WVSOM Faculty

WVSOM has the necessary academic personnel to design, administer, and teach all phases of our curriculum.

As of February 1, 2011, WVSOM's full-time faculty includes:

  • 19 full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, all with Ph.D. degrees. These include faculty in all the major basic science disciplines, including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, and Pharmacology.
     
  • 18 full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty in the Department of Clinical Sciences. These include:
    • D.O.s and M.D.s, who are board certified in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and Pathology
    • Two clinical psychologists
    • A family nurse practitioner
    • One Ph.D. specialist in medical education and program evaluation.
       
  • Six faculty members (all D.O.s) in the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.

In addition, as of June 2010, our faculty included:

  • 15 full-time academic administrators with doctoral degrees
  • one part-time salaried faculty member seven adjunct clinical instructors in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) who assist with those laboratories
  • 52 "visiting lecturers" who give occasional guest lecturers in the Year 1 and Year 2 curriculum
  • 42 lab instructors for Clinical Skills labs
  • 26 off-campus Preceptors for Clinical Skills labs
  • 430 Adjunct Clinical Faculty for Year 3 and Year 4 clinical rotations
  • ten Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs); and
  • approximately 1,500 "preceptors" who accept students for elective clinical rotations, of whom 430 have formal appointments as adjunct clinical faculty.
