Databases, Portals, and E-Resources

Access an extensive array of medical information via your browser. This service is provided for students/residents, faculty and staff of WVSOM and requires a valid user account.

Off-Campus access is available; however, users are advised to carefully read the remote access instructions for each resource as they vary from resource to resource.

Up to Date

"Up to Date" provides evidence-based, peer reviewed medical information resources aimed at increasing clinical knowledge and improving patient care. A full site license, including remote access, to "Up to Date" is now available to WVSOM and MSOPTI students and residents, as well as WVSOM clinical faculty. Log into the password protected web page with your WVSOM account, read and "Accept" the Terms of Use to proceed to Up to Date.

MD Consult

MD Consult provides the complete text of over 50 leading medical books, more than 50,000 high-quality images, full text articles from over 80 journals and Clinics of North America. MD Consult also offers CME activities, customized patient education handouts, peer-reviewed practice guidelines, and drug information resources.

Remote Access for MD Consult

MD Consult requires an additional account (user name and password) for remote access. The account must initially be established from within the WVSOM network. R2 The Rittenhouse R2 Digital Platform

The Rittenhouse R2 Digital Platform offers full-text e-books as well as a customized personal account option that allows you to create bookmarks, store images, manage references, email sections of text, export bibliographic citations, and create course links. Images may be exported for use in other applications. R2 e-book licenses vary regarding number of concurrent users; if you receive a message that the book is currently exceeding the number of licenses, try again later. Lock-outs will be monitored and licenses increased based on demand.

Access the AMA Manual of Style on-line. Remote access requires user name and password; email or call the library at 304-647-6261 to obtain the remote access account information.

EBSCO

Over 1,600 full journal titles from current and archived journals as well as abstracts and indices. Ebsco offers a full suite of medical resource databases, including Medline with Full-text, Cochrane Library Systemic Reviews and Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials, AltHealthWatch, Biomedical Reference Collection/Comprehensive, Health Source, as well as databases pertaining to ecology/environment, business, primary interdisciplinary studies, and a newspaper databank.

NCMETV™

NCMETV is an online medical education system that is built on a tradition of programming excellence from the leader in electronic medical education, the Network for Continuing Medical Education (NCME), who has been providing medical education since 1965 to hospitals across the country.

NCMETV includes a monthly video release with an associated quiz and self-evaluation material, and also Daily Medical News Alerts, which are brief stories on current and breaking medical news topics and an associated daily news online evaluation.

How Do I Register for NCMETV™

Registration for NCMETV™ is simple. Fill out the brief registration form, including West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine's unique hospital ID (email or call the library at 304-647-6261 to obtain the unique hospital ID).

Please use only the hospital ID provided by the WVSOM Library. Attempts to register using other hospital IDs may block your access to NCMETV™.

Suggested Uses for NCMETV™

NCMETV can be used in several ways:

  • CME credit.
  • Asset for curricular integration by faculty and students as a shared education video viewing and/or associated quizzes and evaluations, or as a discussion point, integrated into the curriculum and/or in a similar fashion such as journal club style as a teaching point.

NCMETV™ Accreditation

NCME is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. All NCME TV™ programs are certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ on an hour-for-hour basis. Most are designated for up to 1 Category 1 credit. Daily Medical News Alerts are certified for up to 0.25 Category 1 Credits.

In addition, most video programs are certified for Prescribed Credit by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and Category 2A credit from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
