Team Report (pdf)

This team planned to increase public awareness about heart disease and stroke through multi-media programming, as well as provide updated information on detection and evaluation of heart disease to local health care providers.

The team designed, developed, and implemented a Television Public Service Announcement on stroke awareness/hypertension which aired on WVNS-59 72 times and a Radio Public Service Announcement which was broadcasted by a local radio station throughout the month of February in recognition of Heart Month.

The team distributed the (JN-7) reference card from the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure through the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and a letter of intent to 161 Health Care Providers within Greenbrier County to provide them with current guidelines for heart disease and stroke.

The team researched, designed, and published a Heart Healthy Checklist in the Beckley Register Herald newspaper for increasing awareness of heart disease and stroke, encouraging self-evaluation of risk factors for stroke/heart disease, and seeking further professional evaluation by a health care provider if necessary.
